A Pearl of a Design: Structures Unlimited, Inc. Produces Unique Casino Feature
Weather protection. Energy efficiency. Museum quality daylighting™. Those are the usual hallmarks of projects by Structures Unlimited Inc., using Kalwall® translucent sandwich panels.
But it was another distinct feature that led to one of Structures Unlimited, Inc. more unusual projects: The Wow Factor.
That’s why Structures Unlimited, Inc. was selected to construct one of the signature features of the newly opened Scarlet Pearl Casino Resort in D’Iberville, Miss.
The architect, SOSH Architects of New York City and Atlantic City, N.J., chose Structures Unlimited, Inc. to design a 30’x30’ pyramid that serves as the illuminated jewel sitting atop the porte cochere in front of the casino.
The structure is 65 feet off the ground and its distinct red color is an impressive way to greet visitors as they pull up to the front of the casino.
Mark McNichol, director of sales for Structures Unlimited, Inc., said this was the company’s first unit with Kalwall panels that was not used for weather protection. It also showcased the versatility of Kalwall panels and the ability of Structures Unlimited, Inc. to produce unique and customized designs.
“It does not look like any type of structure Structures Unlimited has provided previously and the project had a particularly tight time frame,” McNichol says. “Collaboration, engineering and putting the design into workable shop drawings take time on very custom applications, but the unit was on time and in place before the opening.”
Todd Feeney, Structures Unlimited, Inc. sales representative to New York City, was actually talking with SOSH about another project when the Scarlet Pearl was brought up. Structures Unlimited, Inc. quickly submitted its ideas and ended up with the job.
